Justice Asif Saeed Khosa will hear the appeal against Lahore High Court’s (LHC) order acquitting a man convicted by the trial court for brutally attacking a law student Khadija Siddiqui with a knife.
A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar began hearing the Khadija Siddiqui case in Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry on Sunday after taking notice of a single-bench verdict by Justice Sardar Ahmed Naeem which acquitted Shah Hussain of all charges after accepting his appeal against the five-year sentence handed to him by a sessions court.
During the hearing, the CJP questioned convict’s father, Tanvir Hashmi, “How did you run a campaign against the apex court?”
Justice Nisar’s remarks came in regards to a unanimous Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) resolution passed by Hussain’s father against the CJP’s suo motu notice of the acquittal.
“Would you have done the same if a lawyer’s daughter had been attacked?” He further asked him
Meanwhile, Khadija recalled the character assassination she had to endure during the court proceedings. “I have become a target of the character assassination,” She asked SC to provide justice.
